Yout tube video is now up! Pink and green paisley card

So after a hell of a time my video is finally up! you can find it here. I had so many complications I almost gave up :( I ended up having to edit it twice and its still not perfect but oh well we all have to start somewhere.

So please have a look. The quality is not great and the lighting is awful but its all a learning curve. I may pluck up the courage and just speak next time! It may be easier to just film and upload straight from my Iphone. I also realized its not really a tutorial more of a walk through of me making a card so next time there will be more instructions.

Overall id give it a 5 out of 10 theres so much that needs improving but I'm hopeing that some more experienced you tubers can share some pointers with me :)

Heres the list of materials

My first you tube video!- Paisley card

So I have been wanting to make a you tube video for a few years now but kept putting it off! but now ive bitten the bullet and gone for it. Its a tutorial for my green and pink paisley card pictured below.
Its very difficult as I expected but I got there in the end! Im not quite ready to use my voice yet so annotations will do for now. With every video I do I will do an accompanying blog post listing tools and any links needed. Its actually a very difficult thing for me to do as I have an anxiety disorder but dont want to be put off trying something new. So please have a look, leave a comment and if you like what you see please subscribe :) The blog post for the video will be up when the video is finished up loading but just wanted to do a mini post before it goes live.

Thanks

Tim Holtz Distress inks-review

                                                            Tim Holtz Distress inks

Ive heard many people say "I cant get on with them" or "they are not my style". This happens when people are not really clear about what they are getting before they buy it. In this post I wanna cover the topics of what Distress inks are "Good for" and what they are "not for". Hopefully I can give you enough of an insight to decide if you wanna purchase some or even if you already have some not to give up so easily!

Here's the inks i have:

Good for: Giving a vintage look to paper. Gone are the days of burning the edge of paper and dipping it in tea. Tim has created the perfect inks to get the old treasure map effect. You can choose from; Vintage photo, old paper, antique linen and tea dye. I personally like to use antique linen for the main colour and brushed coudory for the egdes.

Not for: Stamping images to colour in. I'm sure you could very carefully use your markers to colour in the images but these inks are water based so the alcohol in the pen will cause the ink to move. On the plus side you can spray these inks with a water mister and get a whole new range of effects.

Good for: Blending. These ink blend amazingly together and having all these variants on the same colour mean you can making some amazing colour gradients.

Blended using Chipped sapphire, stormy sky and tumbled glass.

Not for: Stamping super clear images. Again being water based means the colour breaks up on the stamp so you will get a very textured faded look when stamping with them. This I feel is where people make the mistake. They use black soot to stamp and image and don't like the effect but this feature means you can make amazing backing papers! Take a background stamp and choose an ink a bit darker than your paper colour and stamp away! Don't give up on them, use them in a different way and see what happens!

Great for: Finishing edges. Sometimes we stamp a sentiment then cut it out, adhere it to our card and it looks odd. This is because the edges are UN-finished! these inks make giving your card a finished looked easy! Get a blending sponge and lightly in circle motions apply colour to the edge of your paper. keep building until you get the desired effect. Ill post an example below.

If after reading this you are thinking about trying these inks here is my recommendations for which ones to try first:
  • Black soot  (Black)
  • Antique linen  (light brown/ cream)
  • Brushed corduroy (Brown)
  • Stormy sky  (Blue)
  • Dusty concord  (Purple)
  • Peeled paint  (Green)
  • Tattered rose (Pink)
  • Fired Brick (Red)

There are a few other things I could say about these inks but I will leave them for another post. For now all I can say is play around with them. Ask your fellow crafters for ideas, watch you tube videos and read blogs. Don't be so quick to decide they are not for you. These are very versatile inks with a lot of possibilities!

P.S Ive never really been good at writing so please forgive any mistakes I may have  made.

Review- Memory box dies

Here's another review for you :)

Memory box dies come in a great range of designs, from button borders to intricate swirls and flourishes. They work in most leading die cutting machines and are very competitively priced.

I own three Vintage bottles, A little rain and
                                                          Butterfly delights.

I pretty much have only good things to say about these dies! they cut wondefully, the designs are adoreable and you cant beat the price I have seen them as low as £3 brand new!

My favorite is the butterfly delights die. It gives a beautiful border design whilst giving you lots of little butterfly's to use on your projects!
Here's an example! I added the little butterfly's as a finishing touch to my forest scene.

(I may do a tutorial on this card as it is made using an amazing product called Sparkle medium by Imagination crafts. If this sounds like something you would like to see pop a comment below!)

Overall I would highly recommend these dies.Memory box are constantly coming out with new designs and giving us crafters a chance to own unique dies without breaking the bank!

P.S a review of sparkle medium will be coming soon.

Review- Cosmic shimmer mists

Hello!

For my first blog post I shall be reviewing the cosmic shimmer mists by creative expressions. I have 4 colours; Pearl mist, Antique rose, Egyptian blue and bilberry crush.
Here's some swatches for you.

So as you can see the colours are very nice. But unfortunetly these sprays are a nightmare! first problem came up when I had to shake the bottle to mix the mica powder back in with the liquid. There is no mixing ball in the container so is very difficult and takes great effort to make sure its thoroughly mixed.
The second problem is the bottles are not great, particularly  the Egyptian blue. When skaken the cap fills up with product and spills everywhere when you open it. My one may have been a dud but they all did it after shaking them for a while.
Third and final problem is the spray nozzle cant seem to handle the mica powder. You may get one maybe two sprays out of it then its clogges and just drips pigment onto the page. Sometimes shaking it again stops this but after having to shake it for so long in the first place this gets very frustratiing!

The only good things I have to say about these products are the colours are loveley and the price is reasonable but over all take alot of work to get a good final product. I would suggest decanting them into a different spray bottle and trying that. I will countinue to use the ones i have but may invest in some Tattered angels glimmer mists instead as I hear good things!

I have added 2 links; one for cosmic shimmer and another for glimmer mists. :) Happy crafting
